Strategi value investing adalah strategi investasi berbasis nilai, diterapkan banyak investor kelas kakap seperti Warrent Buffet, Christopel Brownie, Benjamin Graham yang juga adalah mentor dari Buffet dan Browne, David Dodd, Charlie Munger, dan manajer hedge fund dengan portfolio milyaran dollar lainnya. Teknik value investing adalah membeli saham yang harga jualnya lebih rendah dari nilai intristiknya. Kalau ada yang belum paham apa itu nilai intristik adalah nilai sebenarnya dari sebuah saham. Misal saham AABBCC harganya Rp 1000,-, setelah dianalisis ternyata nilai intristik saham tersebut adalah Rp 700,-, artinya harga saham saat inii lebih mahal dari nilai intristik, kalau harganya Rp 500,- artinya lebih murah dari nilai intristiknya.
Jadi logika sederhananya begini, misal nih Anda tau sebuah barang sebut saja misalkan smartphone, harganya jual pasarannya Rp 2 juta. Ternyata di sebuah marketplace lagi bikin diskon besar-besaran untuk perangkat elektronik, dan smartphone tadi yang notabene dijual Rp 2 juta, turun jadi Rp 1,75 juta. Kebetulan memang Anda lagi ingin membeli smartphone tersebut, dan beruntung mendapatkan harga yang lebih murah dari harga di pasaran. Artinya dengan mengeluarkan uang lebih sedikit, Anda akan mendapatkan smartphone dengan merek dan spesifikasi yang sama seperti yang dibeli oleh orang lain yang harganya Rp 2 juta. Biasanya penggila belanja akan menunggu waktu-waktu obral untuk mendapatkan diskon harga barang lebih murah dibanding harga jual pasarannya.
Nah, konsep obral ini yang digunakan dalam strategi value investing, artinya investor akan mencari harga saham yang lebih rendah dari nilai intristiknya, seperti contoh di atas, sama AABBCC, kalau nilai intristiknya misal Rp 1000,- dan ternyata harga saham diperdagangkan sebesar Rp 700,-, maka saham ini yang akan dibeli. Biasanya sih, saham-saham seperti ini jarang dilirik, bahkan terkesan diabaikan atau diremehkan, tapi ini yang membuat ketertarikan investor, bahwasanya saham sensitif terhadap berbagai isu atau rumor yang berkembang, yang dapat membuat volatilitasnya tinggi, harga bergerak naik turun, dan saham yang bereaksi secara berlebihan, berpeluang memberikan imbal hasil yang besar, terlebih dibeli ketika harganya sedang didiskon.
Pertanyaanya, apakah bisa strategi ini diterapkan di forex?
Tidak, karena uang bukanlah sebuah objek yang bisa didiskon. Sederhana saja, misalkan Anda datang ke money changer, ingin membeli dolar, apakah pernah Anda melihat ada Dolar yang didiskon, saya jamin belum pernah ada tampilan Dolar, Yen, Pound, atau Euro yang didiskon, harga belinya akan sama dengan harga kurs yang berlaku saat itu, dan perbedaan yang paling mendasar sebenarnya, saham itu lebih ke objek investasi, sedangkan mata uang itu lebih ke objek perdagangan atau trading.
Objek investasi bukan objek perdagangan, walau ada objek investasi yang juga bisa diperdagangkan tapi dasar transaksinya adalah investasi. Pada investasi, lebih ke sebuah aset dimana hasil lebih ke jangka panjang, tapi untuk perdagangan hasil bisa jangka pendek sampai menengah. Jadi misalkan Anda trading forex online, ngak ada tuh di broker buat lagi diskon harga USDJPY atau diskon harga GBPUSD, ya quotasi harga akan sesuai dengan harga yang terbentuk di pasar saat itu juga, Anda jual beli akan mengacu pada harga bid ask dari pair yang bersangkutan.
